Mancora City Guide

mancoraperu

OVERVIEW: A small beach resort town visited by people from Lima during the holidays. Important to go in either December or January or else it's likely to be a ghost town.

POPULATION: 10,000

WEATHER: Tropical and dry (24 °C). Summers (December-April) can get to around 40°C.

SAFETY: Safe in Mancora, except for infrequent reports of robberies and sexual assaults on secluded beaches.

MUST DO: Surf!...and do drugs, if you're into them. A lot of yey floating around Mancora.

RENT AN APARTMENT IN MANCORA: Beach houses can rent for about $1000/month. Best thing to do is to split one of these between 4 or 5 people.

HOSTEL DORM BED/NIGHT $10.00 or so; Loki's has beds for $9.00. Probably the best place to stay in Mancora.

NIGHTLIFE IN MANCORA: 6.25/10

Not a whole lot, being a small town and all, but steps up to the plate during high season. Lots of crazy foreigners with some Peruvian tourists sprinkled in.

I recommend: Sirena BarIt'll do.

BOTTLE OF BEER: $2.50

CHANCE OF HOOKING-UP IN MANCORA: 6.5/10

Depends when you go and what you want. High-class Peruvian gals will obviously be a bit harder to crack than coked-up British slags. Overall, it's as easy as any smaller-sized tourist destination should be. My advice: target non-Peruvian Latin American tourists.

***ONLINE DATING: Latin American Cupid allows you to talk with girls and set up dates before you arrive in the country. For this reason, I recommend it.

ARE GIRLS HOT IN MANCORA?: 6/10.

Meh. You'll expect better.

LEARNING SPANISH

If you want to meet women in Peru, you will need to speak some Spanish. The Pickup Spanish program is the only course of its kind, designed specifically to teach you Spanish for meeting Latinas in Latin America.

GROCERIES: Milk (1L)= $1.30   Loaf of Bread= $1.75   Eggs= $1.70   Water (1.5L)= $1.00   Cigarettes= $2.50

JOB OPPORTUNITIES: Work in a surf shop, teach surfing? Not really sure what else you could arrange here.

TAXI: $1 should you need to take one.

NOTES: Not a very attractive city. I'd recommend it to recharge if you're exhausted from doing the Inca Trail or from an epic Latin American surf tour, but it doesn't hold much worth apart from that.

OVERALL RATING: 6/10
