Back again, folks!
Today I'll be talking about the best places to find a wife in Latin America...or at the very least, a serious girlfriend.
You see, as much as I like hooking up with and casually dating Latinas, I acknowledge that I'm getting a bit older and more mature (relatively, at least). And, as I'm sure many of you know, after reaching a certain number of notches, the whole chasing women just for the sake of it tends to turn to ash in your mouth.
With that in mind, I thought it prudent to do a post for those men who are looking for something more permanent.
In order to determine these rankings, I've taken into consideration the following things:
- Attractiveness of local women
- Cultural similarities
- Divorce rates in the country
- Standard of living in the country
- Personal experience.
If you'd like to find a wife in Mexico, Central or South America, check out the following places.
5. Costa Rica
Suggested city: Heredia
With widespread prostitution (it's legal here) and high rates of tourism, it's easy to think that Costa Rica wouldn't be the best for finding a serious girlfriend or spouse. However, if you get off the tourist trail and visit some of the country's other cities - particularly in the interior - you'll be pleasantly surprised. For instance, Heredia, just 10km north of the capital San Jose, is like entering a different world. It has a large student population, crime rates are low and the women, while just as good looking as in the capital, are more conservative.
It has the vibe of a college town, but without the sluttiness that tends to go with it.
Costa Rica is a good choice due to its stable and growing economy, and the cultural similarities it shares with the United States. This means that, apart from learning Spanish, you won't have to do much calibration in order to adapt to the culture of the woman you're attracted to. Since the standard of living is fairly high, you won't have to worry as much as a gal using you as a meal ticket for her and her family, something that is much more common in neighbouring Nicaragua.
Suggested city: Mendoza
It's important to remember that Argentina is more than just Buenos Aires. The country's capital is not the best hunting ground. The culture in Buenos Aires is inward-looking, divorce rates are high and foreigners aren't made to feel as welcome as in other Latin American capitals. But, if you venture outside the metropolis, you'll find a much warmer culture along with a much less indifferent female population.
The city of Mendoza struck me as a very favourable place to find a longterm girlfriend. It's a small, pleasant city in the North-Central part of the country. Unlike the women in the capital who can be, at times, standoffish and depressive, the women here seem happy and outgoing. Think Colombian-levels of affection, something not common with Argentine women. They also have more of a traditional 'mestiza' look than women in other parts of the country, if you happen to be into that sort of thing.
The Argentine economy is often in shambles, but the standard of living remains higher than in most Latin American countries, so you don't have to worry as much about women pursuing you for nothing more than a green card. Another major plus is that Mendoza would be a very nice place to live and raise a family.
Like in Heredia, if you're headed to Mendoza to meet women, learn a bit of Spanish first.
Suggested city: Lima
After getting to know Peru a bit better, I'll admit: I wasn't a fan. But recently I've changed my tune. I've come to recognize and appreciate what this South American country has to offer. While the women aren't quite on the level as Colombia, Brazil or even Mexico, Lima and Arequipa have there fair share of beauties. The women here are generally loyal, as it is among one of the more conservative countries in South America - people tend to take things like marriage slightly more seriously than in neighbouring countries.
Another huge plus of Peru is that it is a relatively safe country, and it's economy is on the up and up. If you're looking to start a business in Latin America, there is almost no better place to do so than Peru.
I recommend Lima. The quality of women in most of the country will be worse than what you'll find in the capital. And, despite it being a massive and increasingly cosmopolitan city, you can still find girls here that are honest and traditional.
Suggested city: Belo Horizonte
No one can deny that divorce rates have skyrocketed in Brazil. After new legislature was passed making the process faster and easier, divorce rates quickly jumped by nearly 50%.
That being said, there are still places in this massive nation where marriage is taken seriously. If you travel outside of the major metropolises of Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, you'll find a very different country. Belo Horizonte occurs to me as a great place to find a quality woman. People here are among the friendliest in Brazil, and despite having a population of over one million people, it still manages to feel like a small town. Best of all, there are hardly any foreigners, so you won't have to fight the unfair reputation of all foreigners in Brazil being sex tourists (a prevalent attitude among Brazilians in Rio and in the Northeast of the country).
Also, with much lower crime rates and a lower cost of living than Rio or Sao Paulo, you may find that Belo Horizonte is a perfect Brazilian city to put down roots.
Note that you'll need to speak some Portuguese here - not many people know English.
Suggested city: Bajio region
Pound for pound, Mexico is the best place to find a wife or serious girlfriend in Latin America. Its convenient location right next to the United States, low divorce rates, quality women and low cost of living for a high standard of life simply cannot be matched by any country in the region.
Mexican women understand and respect the contract of marriage. As a Catholic country, divorce is seriously frowned upon here. Although larger cities like Mexico City and Monterrey have largely abandoned such values, the importance of marriage still holds strong in most of the center and south of the country.
With media reports of Mexican immigrants flooding across the border, you may be surprised to know that most middle/upper class Mexicans have no interest in leaving their country for the United States. In fact, a good way to screen a women for marriage here is to make sure she has no interest in leaving Mexico - if she doesn't, you can be fairly certain that she's not just with you for the shot at a better life.
The best region to find a wife in Mexico is in the center of the country. Places like Aguascalientes, Guanajuato, Michoacán and San Luis Potosi have high numbers of traditional and attractive women, with lower divorce rates than in Mexico City or northern states such as Nuevo Leon or Chihuahua. While the lowest rates of divorce can be found in the southernmost states of Oaxaca and Chiapas, you may find cultural differences too much to navigate.
The Bajio region also offers an excellent quality life for a very low cost of living. If you choose to settle here, you'll be welcomed with tons of sunshine, amazing food, a low cost of living and lower crime rates than most major American cities. Best of all, you'll have easy access to the United States.
And there you have it!
In my opinion, these are the best spots in LATAM to find a suitable partner.
If you know of any other good options, please don't hesitate to post them in the comments below! More and more men are looking abroad for this sort of thing, so let's start a conversation to help our fellow hombres.
Thanks for listening.
Until next time,
