Today, let’s talk about Panamanian women!
Because, why not, right?
They’re not given enough credit on the Internet – in terms of Latin America, Colombian girls tend to dominate the conversation.
I’m here to change that. If you’re looking to meet or date girls in Panama, or, you’re simply wondering what they’re like, this article is for you.
Let’s dive into the pros, cons, quirks and nuances, shall we?
Their Economic Situation
Allow me to start off by introducing a topic you may not expect from such an article.
One difference between Panama and the rest of Central America (save for Costa Rica) is that the country is better off economically.
What this means in terms of meeting the opposite sex, is that, generally speaking, they’ll be less likely to be after your money.
That’s a good thing! You won’t have to be as vigilant here as you would in nearby nations.
In fact, in addition to Central America, many people from Colombia and Venezuela come to Panama to earn more money and live a better life. You’ll see a number of girls from Colombia and Venezuela working various jobs in Panama City.
We’ll talk more about that in a bit.
What are some personality traits of the ladies from this fine country?
Well, of course there’s a limit to how we can define that – everyone is different.
So, rather than try to stereotype an entire nation, I’ll simply point out some general traits that stuck out to me during my time in the country.
#1. National Pride
This is something that surprised me upon my first visit to Panama. Panamanians are extremely proud of their country, and proud of being Panamanian. I was taken aback because you don’t hear all that much about Panama in the international media (save for the ‘Panama Papers’ a few years back). Not to mention, historically there has been a strong US influence in Panama, it’s a tiny country with a small population, and a popular destination for expats.
I figured all this might dilute the country’s national identity.
Almost every Panamanian I met spoke fondly of their country, its food, its beaches, its quality of life, etc. And I also noticed a ton of Panamanian flags flying. It wasn’t at all uncommon to see flags flying from houses, apartment building and even on the antennas of taxis!
In short, I judged wrong.
What this means for you is that, if you’re in Panama trying to meet women or to just make a good impression on locals in general, speak fondly of the country to the folks you encounter! The food, the friendliness of the people, the geographic marvels of the nation.
It’s a good way to score points.
Panamanians have a beautiful country and they know it!
Panamanians know how to party. In fact, Panama City is one of the best places for nightlife in Latin America (and, hands down the best in Central America).
Calle Uruguay is a street in Panama City that’s full of bars and nightclubs – head there on any given weekend and you’ll find it’s a great place to meet Panamanian women.
In short, if you plan on partying with the local girls here, make sure you get your full 8 hours along with a few espressos in you!
I’ve found that this fun-loving attitude also translates to general optimism and positivity. Girls in Panama will lift your spirits. There isn’t much room for negativity here, so keep a smile on your face, laugh a lot and you’ll fit right in.
Another thing that somewhat shocked me about Panamanian women is that they’re direct.
They’ll tell you exactly how they feel or if they are less than impressed with something that you may (or may not) have done.
This was refreshing to me because, prior to Panama, I spend a lot of time in Mexico where they take a much more passive approach to things, or make up excuses in an effort to avoid conflict or as not to offend someone.
Not so much here in Panama!
While perhaps this can lead to more strife in relationships, with a Panamanian girl you’ll always know where you stand…because she won’t hesitate to let you know.
Where to Meet Girls in Panama
Alright, let’s break down some good cities for meeting girls in Panama.
The population of Panama is only just over 4 million, and out of those 4 million, over 2 million of them live in the Panama City-Colon metropolitan area.
So, as far as cities go, your options are somewhat limited.
Here are my suggestions:
You might have suspected: Panama City takes the crown.
As the country's largest city, you'll find all types of Panamanian girls here: White, Black, Indigenous, Mixed, Colombian, Venezuelan...whatever you like, really.
Another point. You’ll find English levels to be higher here among the local population than in many other Panamanian cities (save for popular tourist beach destinations of course.
For a city of its size, Panama City is also safe by Latin American standards. You shouldn’t have to watch your back all that much walking the streets here.
Finally, Panama City is less socially conservative than most of the country’s smaller cities. That, accompanied by a strong nightlife scene makes it the place to be for meeting women in Panama.
Not too many tourists visit David, but it’s actually one of the country’s largest cities. And, a great place for meeting Panamanian girls.
At first glance, David doesn’t see like it has a whole lot to offer, but if you spend more than a couple days here, you'll soon find that there's more to uncover. There are a handful of good casinos and clubs, and everything is cheaper than what you'll find in Panama City.
Although you may not see many attractive Panamanian girls walking around during the day in David as you would in Panama City, they do tend come out at night at the various bars and nightclubs.
Keep in mind that Chiricanas (Girls From David) are quite different from Capitalinas (girls from Panama City) The women you'll meet in David are more conservative, slightly friendlier, but less diverse - most of them have lighter skin and are a mix of Spanish and Indigenous. There are not as many women of African descent.
Colon is a city just outside of Panama City (sometimes, it’s rolled into the population of Panama City). It’s primarily famous for its large free trade zone. However, what many don’t know is it’s an incredibly underrated city to meet women in Panama. Since the city doesn’t see many foreigners, you’ll get a lot of attention here!
However, be careful walking the streets after dark, as Colon has a relatively high crime rate.
Bocas del Toro
Bocas del Toro is an island chain off the Caribbean coast of Panama, as well as a popular tourist destination.
Admittedly, this isn’t the greatest place to meet women from Panama, as probably half the island’s population at any given time are tourists and expats. That said, if you’re looking to meet gals in general (even if they aren’t Panamanian), this is an excellent option. There is a big party scene, a young population, and plenty of outdoor activities to keep you occupied during the day.
Bocas is worth a visit if you’re in Panama.
Are Panamanian Women Attractive?
Yes, Panamanian women are attractive! In terms of Central America, Panamanian women and Costa Rican women are neck and neck in my humble opinion, and quite a few rankings above the rest of Central America.
The main draw of Panama is its diversity. In Panama City (and beyond, but mostly Panama City) you can find Chinese-Panamanians, Black-Panamanians, White-Panamanians, Indigenous-Panamanians, as well of course as a mix of any and/or all of the above.
Not only that, there is a sizeable Colombian and Venezuelan population here, as well as plenty of young expats.
Again, whatever your tastes happen to be, there is something here for you.
Dating in Panama as a Foreigner
Dating in Panama as a foreigner, while easier than in some Latin American countries, does come with some complications.
The fact that Panama is fairly economically stable, had very diverse population, and a large expat community means that you won’t get quite as much preferential treatment here from the ladies as, say, in a midsized Colombian or Brazilian city..
The flip side of this is that less women are likely to take advantage of you because they see you as a walking ATM.
You take the good with the bad.
A good thing about dating in Panama as a foreigner is that English levels are quite high among the local population, so even if you don’t speak Spanish it’s not going to put you at a massive disadvantage in terms of communication
Also, Panamanian women are open to dating foreigners – there isn’t a stigma against it.
Panama Dating Sites
Tinder is the dating app most widely used by the population in Panama. Here you’ll find woman from Panama or all ages, colours, shapes and sizes.
This tends to be the go-to app for many tourists and expats.
The downside of Tinder is that there is an extremely low barrier to entry — anyone can sign up with one click through Facebook. What this means is that you’ll get a lot of girls on the app who aren’t serious about meeting anyone, they’re simply trying to court attention. You’ll also find a lot of escorts on the app. If you’re looking to meet normal girls, this can be annoying.
There are a few websites that mention Badoo as a good Panama dating site option. I’d like to dispel that. Badoo was popular several years ago in Latin America, but it has been on a sharp decline ever since. You could give Bumble a shot. It doesn’t have much of a presence yet in Panama, but it’s growing rapidly. Cross Badoo off of your list.
Latin American Cupid
Latin American Cupid is another popular dating app here. The women you find on this app tend to be less flakey than Tinder. For this reason, we recommend it over the aforementioned. Although there are less users than Tinder, most men find that they received more matches and better leads on Latin American Cupid.
If you’d like to meet Panamanian women today, from your own home, you can try out Latin American Cupid here.
I hope you got something out of this article.
In short, I’m a big fan of Panamanian women (if you couldn’t already tell)!
They are incredibly underrated, and often overlooked in favour of Brazilian or Colombian women.
In addition to the women being a draw, Panama is also one of the best destinations in Latin America to either live or visit. The quality of life is extremely high, the nation is safe by Latin American standards, the infrastructure in Panama City is excellent, the locals are friendly, the food is tasty, the country is easily accessible from the United States and, most importantly, it’s fairly easy to get residency here, start a business here and/or avoid taxes.
There’s very little not to love.
And that about does it for me, folks. Hopefully this gave you some of the information you were seeking regarding Panamanian women, as well as some cultural tips that might help you adjust a bit more smoothly.
I hope to get down to Panama again very soon – maybe I’ll see you there ;).
Thanks for listening.
Until next time,
