Puebla Travel Blog

OVERVIEW: Puebla is in a scenic mountainous region about 120 km southeast of Mexico City. It is the fourth-largest city in Mexico and is the home of mole, a popular Mexican sauce.

POPULATION: 1,500,000

WEATHER: Subtropical highland (14-19 °C). Can get a bit chilly at night.

SAFETY: Safe in downtown Puebla and in Cholula. I've heard the outskirts of the city are dangerous, but I heard it from rich Poblanas who have probably never been within 10 km.

MUST DO: Eat. "The food here will make your bollocks tingle." There are many cultural attractions too.

Not bad, as long as you have your logistics in order. What I mean by that is don't live too far away from the bars. For instance, if you live in downtown Puebla, you'll have a much harder time getting a girl you met in Cholula to go home with you. Everything in Cholula is close by, so if you're staying there it's a non-issue. Single girls seem to prefer foreigners to locals, which is good news for you. Some dudes might give you a hard time because they're jealous, but they're harmless. You're in a posh area and so most guys are pussies. Social groups are a big thing here, so you'll have to break down some walls, but bitch shields are minimal. You're likely to get a decent amount of attention if you dress well and radiate positive body language.

***ONLINE DATING: If you want to meet girls in Mexico the easy way, I highly recommend signing up for Mexican Cupid. You can chat with local girls and set up dates before you arrive in the country, which is a major advantage.

Satisfies the expectations of what upper/middle class Mexican university girls look like. Girls in Puebla are not as hot as Cuernavaca or Guadalajara, however.

RENT AN APARTMENT IN PUEBLA: $400-$500. For $500 you can get a small and modest 2 bedroom or a nice 1 bedroom apartment. Stay near Cholula (SEE NIGHTLIFE), a neighbourhood about 15 km away from downtown Puebla.

***If you’re doing a short-term stay (one month or less) Airbnb is your best bet. Click this link to register and get $40 off the cost of your first stay.

HOSTEL DORM BED/NIGHT Hostal Cholula is around $10.00 for a bed.

NIGHTLIFE IN PUEBLA: 7/10 (Only addresses Cholula)

A good nightlife scene in Cholula, but some the clubs (and some of the people) are a bit stuck-up. However, there's a lot of choice and you're sure to find something suited to your personality. Don't believe me? Here's a video of some kids who hit 15 bars in Cholula in one night.

I recommend: BambukosThe link is a shit video, but it gives you a good idea of the music and atmosphere.

If you want to meet women in Mexico, you will need to speak some Spanish. PickUp Spanish is the best resource of its kind, designed specifically for teaching you the Spanish you'll need to meet girls from Latin America.

GROCERIES: Milk (1L)= $1.10   Tortillas (1kg)= $1.00   Eggs= $1.90   Water (1.5L)= $1.00   Cigarettes= $3.50

JOB OPPORTUNITIES: Either teach English or be German and work in the Volkswagen plant just outside the city.

TAXI: About $3.00-6.00.

NOTES: I have to knock it down a half-point because I felt that there was a bit more hate towards the white man than in other parts of Mexico. Of course, Mexicans have more than enough reasons to hate gringos with enthusiasm - and I'm surprised more of them don't - but I don't have much time for it. Also, nightlife in Puebla only exists Thursday-Sunday.
