OVERVIEW: The capital of the Dominican Republic as well as its largest city. Zona Colonial is a UNESCO heritage site, and a great place to take a stroll during the day. The financial, political, and industrial hub of the country.

POPULATION: 2,000,000

WEATHER: Tropical Climate (25-30 °C). Coolest in December and January.

SAFETY: Santo Domingo can be a bit dangerous. Don't look lost or rich at night and have all your wits about you when you're out and about.

MUST DO: Walk the old city. There are plenty of things to do here, but don't leave without checking out the colonial zone.

You definitely have some strong value here as a foreigner. Maybe it's because they're bored, but the attention you'll draw as a non-local here will shock you. This isn't to say girls will be hurling themselves at you around every corner in Santo Domingo, but if you put forth minimal effort, you will be rewarded. Hooking up with girls in Santo Domingo is easy. It is not difficult to tell if they're interested either because bashfulness is not usually the modus operandi here.

***ONLINE DATING: If you're like me and prefer to set up dates before you arrive in the country, I strongly recommend Dominican Cupid.

There are some stunners here in Santo Domingo. Depending on your type, you will either be in heaven or just content. If you like black girls with large breasts and big booties, you will be in heaven. If you like slim black girls, you will be in heaven. Hell, if you like any black girls this isn't a bad place to be as far as Latin America goes. Even if you're not into full-on sistas, there are heaps of Rosario Dawson-looking girls too.

RENT AN APARTMENT IN SANTO DOMINGO: $500.00 in Santo Domingo can be done, and has been done. You may want to pay a bit more rent for a better apartment amenities/location, though.

***If you’re doing a short-term stay (one month or less) Airbnb is your best bet. Click this link to register and get $40 off the cost of your first stay.

A plethora of options with some of the best dancing you'll see anywhere. Zona Colonial and Venezuela Avenue is where it's at. Zona Colonial has better looking girls and fancier clubs, but it is easier to hook up with girls on Venezuela. The choice is yours. Nightlife in Santo Domingo is pretty bumpin' but kind of intimidating at first...feels like you might be robbed. But it is safer than it feels.

I recommend: Platinum Disco ClubIn the university zone, which is not far from the colonial zone. A bit higher brow, so if you like something a bit grittier so to speak, head to Venezuela Ave.

If you want to meet women in the Dominican Republic, you will need to speak some Spanish. PickUp Spanish is the best resource of its kind, designed specifically for teaching you the Spanish you'll need to meet girls from Latin America.

GROCERIES: Milk (1L)= $1.20   Loaf of Bread= $1.40   Eggs= $1.80   Water (1.5L)= $1.00   Cigarettes= $3.00

JOB OPPORTUNITIES: Prospects aren't too bright. English teaching is possible, but the pay is weak.

TAXI: $5.00 - $8.00

NOTES: Santo Domingo is a solid city. Definitely has enough to warrant a week's stay or longer. Girls in Santo Domingo are super cool as well. However, if you're not used to spending time in 3rd-ish world countries, you may find the city a bit...grotty. But it would be a damn shame if you let that deter you from going.
